The Magazine is finished!
Especially in the last weeks we had a lot of work to do. We had to correct articles, layout the magazine and organize the printing, but finally we got it: The 7th edition of the AIM Youth Magazine is published.
We organized a big launching ceremony to present our work officially, and of course to sell some of the magazines.
We used this opportunity to let all our students meet each other again. The magazine is a complete work of all our students who are visiting five different schools. Most of them are boarding students and rarely come out of the school premises. They don’t really know each other and now they are publishing a magazine all together. Because of that it was important to us that they have at least the chance to see each other at the launching.
On a hot Saturday morning we picked up all our students from their various schools with a big school bus and brought them to St. Mary’s, our girl’s school in Elmina. Apart from them we also invited some guests who were interested in our project. After listening and dancing to some introductional music several speeches were made. Solomon, the executive director of AIM.Ghana held a small speech, as well as Sharifa and me. Two of our students, Charles and Emmanuel introduced their articles in the magazine to us and made everybody interested in reading more. The culture group of our organization made an interesting and impressive drum and dance performance. That was a good variation to the speeches.
As the main act of the program the MC Sir Isaac uncovered the magazine and showed us all the cover of it. The students especially liked the back page of it where they could see a picture of each participating student.
Sharifa and I wanted every participant of the workshop to get one magazine for free. It was their work to write the articles and it is their product in the end, they should not have to pay for it. Because of that we asked for donations. Some friends of Solomon gave us quite generous amounts. Many of the students also brought something small as well. The launching was the end of the second term’s workshop for our students and us. I am glad to finally have a presentable product and I am looking forward to start into the holidays.
