Extended visions in the ICT workshop
„The internet opens a lot of doors to those who are passionate. “– Michelle Phan
“The internet is a big distraction.” – Ray Bradbury
There are many feelings about the internet. Some might say it rises pressure on the individual to always be available, it consumes a lot of time and produces too much personal and private data. Others might say that is a big drive for economic growth, brings potential for self-improvement and is about to trigger the fourth industrial revolution.
After the first half of the workshop, at which we have focused on the basic concepts of user interface navigating and understanding fundamental software constructions, we are finally about to outspread our horizon. With your financial support from the donator circles we could acquire a Wi-Fi access point to explore the big shot of ICT; we are about to explore the world-wide web.
With our first unit, the students gathered a first impression how the internet works- from its decentralized structure up to global ‘file-sharing’. In the course of our lesson, we will sign up for a mail account, as starting point for any participation in the web. Thereafter, we are going to get very close to our favourite celebrities and become real quiz experts.
Our students’ motivation jumped high once we started the topic, since now they can experience the most noticeable potential of the ICT. Most of them only heard from this magic place from school lessons and friends, which lead to a very biased impression of the internet –emphasizing on social networks and multimedia platforms like YouTube and Waptrick.
Michael and I therefore aim to unveil more potential of the world wide web. This includes all the communication technologies and participation but also information sources, journals and e-learning services. We hope that the tools will also lead to more severe understanding of the social media and multimedia data bases.
In doing so, we seek to present as many services as possible, that encourage the students to more independence, to open a lot of doors.
